| Video Discription | A 16-year-old unmarried girl, presented with acute pelvic pain and was diagnosed with torsion of the right ovary. Ovarian torsion is a gynecological emergency where the ovary twists around the ligaments that support it, compromising blood flow and potentially leading to ovarian damage if not promptly treated. Given the severity of the condition and the importance of preserving ovarian function, immediate surgical intervention was planned. The patient underwent right ovarian detorsion, cystectomy, and bilateral ovarian ligament plication. During the procedure, the right ovary was found to be twisted, but due to timely intervention, the ovary was viable. Detorsion was successfully performed to untwist the ovary and restore normal blood flow. A cystectomy was also carried out to remove a cyst that had formed on the right ovary, which may have contributed to the torsion. To prevent future occurrences of torsion, bilateral ovarian ligament plication was performed, a technique that shortens and stabilizes the ovarian ligaments, reducing the likelihood of future torsion episodes. The surgery was performed laparoscopically, allowing for precise manipulation and preservation of the ovarian tissue. The minimally invasive nature of the procedure resulted in less postoperative pain and a quicker recovery. Postoperatively, Patient A4 was closely monitored to ensure that normal ovarian function returned. She was advised on regular follow-up visits to monitor ovarian health and function. |
