| Video Discription | This is the patient that underwent the guillotine amputation on Monday. She sat at home with a painful extremity for 1 week. She has a history of smoking and uncontrolled diabetes. We treated her with antibiotics to help clear the infection for 5 days and are now formalizing her amputation. The reason you cannot leave her with a “peg leg” or “pirates amputation” is because there is nothing cushion the bone from the skin. After a few walks on the peg leg the bone would stick through. The gastrocnemius or calf muscles server as the cushion in a forma BKA or Below Knee Amputation. In two weeks, the staples will come out. In 4-6 weeks the patient will get a stump shrinker.
