| Video Discription | In this installment of our surgical video series, I demonstrate a Canal Wall Down (CWD) Mastoidectomy performed for a patient with recurrent cholesteatoma. This patient had previously undergone mastoid surgery, making this a complex revision case where the "canal wall down" approach is often the best option to prevent further recurrence. By removing the posterior canal wall, we merge the mastoid space and the ear canal into one combined, exteriorized cavity. This allows for easier access to deep-seated disease and, most importantly, enables us to clean out any future growths in the office without returning to the operating room.
