| Video Discription | Rule number 1: Keep the Phaco tip in the central safe zone as much as possible. Rule number 2: Use the chopper to help manipulate the endonucleus and epinucleus in such a way as to feed the phaco tip into the central safe zone. The mistake and tendency is to try and grab lens material with the phaco tip. But this carries with it risk of phacoing or aspirating something you shouldn't such as the iris or capsular bag. Most of the time you might be OK, but once in a while you might cause an avoidable complication. Think of the phaco tip as a stationary instrument and force yourself to have no choice but to use something else to bring lens material to its tip. The chopper is well suited for the job because it has a right angled tip that can pulling material centrally. Mobilizing the first endonuclear fragment is a challenge. Grabbing it with the phaco tip is not the solution. Cracking over and over again is also not the solution. Using the chopper to glide under the anterior capsule and around the fragment into the equator and pulling the material centrally is safe, controlled, and highly reproducible.
