If you prefer to read, rather than watch the video, here’s the transcript. 0:13 – Case Presentation: A 30 year old lady complains of pain in the left side of her nose for TEN YEARS! CT sinus scans showed: 1) sinusitis involving left sided concha bullosa (pneumatized middle turbinate), and 2) right deviated nasal septum. 0:33 – Treatment strategy is to: 1) resect the concha bullosa, and 2) straighten the nasal septum. This involves resecting the lateral wall of the concha bullosa, and shortening the middle turbinate. 0:57 – Surgery video demo: A sickle knife is used to create the initial puncture. Endoscopic scissors are used to open up the concha bullosa. The air filled interior of the concha bullosa can now be seen. The lateral wall of concha bullosa is removed. Microdebrider shaver is used to clean up the loose tags of mucosa. The rough bony edges are smoothened to facilitate healing. 3:35 – After surgery, the patient’s block nose and left nose pain resolved completely for the first time in ten years! |
