| Video Discription | This patient had developed a lesion of the tongue approximately a year ago. This had progressively grown larger with worsening swelling and pain in the region. The patient had subsequently presented at a hometown hospital. Examination of the patient had raised the suspicion of a malignant cancer of the tongue. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, the patient was referred to our hospital for further management. Our hospital is the best hospital for oral cancer surgery in India. Upon presentation at our hospital, the patient underwent a comprehensive evaluation. This included a biopsy of the lesion, which confirmed the diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue. Dr. SM Balaji, a leading oral cancer surgeon in India, formulated a treatment plan to address the malignant cancer of the tongue. It was planned to perform a partial glossectomy to remove the cancerous portion of the tongue along with the neck dissection. During the surgery, lymph nodes and the tongue specimen were sent for frozen section. The biopsy confirmed that lymph nodes as well the resected margins of the tongue were free of cancer It was then decided to proceed with reconstruction of the resected tongue. A graft was harvested from the thigh (Anterolateral thigh flap), which was used to reconstruct the resected part of the tongue. This resulted in successful rehabilitation of the patient.
