| Video Discription | Craniopharyngioma surgery Craniopharyngioma is a benign tumor commonly located in the suprasellar region, in close proximity to various important structures, which need to be preserved while performing the surgical excision. The tumor contains solid and cystic elements, with frequent calcifications which are intimately adherent to the surrounding important vascular and neural structures. The goal of surgical excision is the subtotal tumor removal, preserving critical neurovascular structures. The densely adherent portions of the tumor can be left behind in view of avoiding postoperative patient morbidity. Ommaya chamber can be placed after the completion of tumor excision in case of cystic tumors, with the aim of instilling postoperative chemotherapy or aspirating the cyst contents in case the cyst recurs.
