There is still controversy among pediatric urologists regarding the success and indication of this operation. Many believe straightforward pyeloplasty is a better option since there may be intrinsic ureteropelvic junction obstruction generated by the lower pole vessels. Studies performed at Children's Medical Center Dallas challenge that theory based on histologic evaluations of UPJ specimens associated with aberrant vessels where markers of intrinsic obstruction of the UPJ were not encountered. Patient selection is paramount for the success of the operation. |
