Congratulations Dr. Anupama! In #Gynaecologic #Oncology, robotic surgery is mainly used for the treatment of endometrial and cervical cancers. The surgical treatment for endometrial cancer is hysterectomy, with removal of the fallopian tubes and ovaries and also removal of the pelvic and para-aortic nodes. Surgical treatment for early cervical cancer is radical hysterectomy with removal of the pelvic nodes. Both these procedures are well suited for robotic surgery and in fact, robotic surgery for #endometrial and #cervical #cancer is advantageous over conventional as it has reduced blood loss, reduced hospital stay and reduced surgical morbidity without compromising the standard of surgery. Another advantage which the robotic platform offers is the integrated #infrared #imaging which allows #detecting the sentinel node in endometrial and cervical cancer. This helps to reduce the surgical complications associated with lymph node dissection.
