| Video Discription | Dr. Karen Zaghiyan, colorectal surgeon at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles performs the implantation of a Sacral Nerve Stimulation device (also known as Interstim) for the treatment of fecal incontinence. The patient suffered from continued fecal incontinence due to the long-term effects of rectal prolapse. Despite surgically addressing the prolapse, optimizing her diet and anti-diarrheal medications, the fecal incontinence persisted. This patient was able to trial the stimulator via a percutaneous lead implantation at which time her symptoms improved by over 80%. Because of these excellent preliminary results, we proceeded with the permanent implantation of the neuro stimulator. The procedure is performed in a minimally invasive manner and on an outpatient basis, meaning patients will be able to go home on the same day of surgery.
