In a colonoscopy, what is seen is multiple diverticuli and inflammation along the folds of the mucosa. This is distinguished from typical diverticulitis where the inflammation is around the diverticuli openings. During the surgery, there are ink spot markings where the endoscopist places mucosal ink proximally and distally to the area of inflammation.
