| Video Discription | Congenital ear deformity in babies is almost 20% and most of these deformity doesn’t get corrected as they grow up. The malformed shape of the ear is a big cause of embarrassment. In this video presentation, Dr. Sajal Halder, AIIMS Alumni, and board-certified Plastic Surgeon have explained the features of prominent ear and also shared his method of surgical correction. Prominent Large Ear is a combination of outward projection of the ear along with enlarged size of the ear. This case is predominantly a case of the large ear or Macroita. The upper half of the ear is markedly enlarged and the big size of the ear is mainly contributed by an enlarged scapha. The surgical management consists of the removal of an ellipse of ear cartilage in the upper half which is the Scapha. After removal of the ear cartilage, the skin on the lateral surface of the ear is removed, and then finally, a wedge of the helical rim is excised to achieve the final shape of the ear. Other deformities such as Bat ear, Cup ear, enlarged lobule, Microtia can be corrected.
