| Video Discription | Technical video (2022) / Therapeutic Endoscopy / Dr Maher A. Abbas Colorectal cancer is the second most common cancer globally and affects both men and women. In general, colorectal cancer develops from the normal lining of the large bowel, which gradually changes into a growth called a polyp. Removal of the polyp at an early stage can eliminate the risk of developing colorectal cancer. A subset of patients can present with large colorectal polyps greater than 3 centimeters. These large polyps are routinely managed by surgical resection of a portion of the colon. In the absence of advanced colon cancer, endoscopic local excision of a large polyp is a sufficient treatment as long as it is performed by a skilled therapeutic endoscopist. In this video, Dr Maher A. Abbas and his team describe a case of a patient with a 5-centimeter polyp which was removed successfully with endoscopic resection. The various technical aspects of endoscopic resection are described. On long-term surveillance colonoscopy there was no evidence of persistent or recurrent disease. Dr Maher A.
