The differential diagnosis between otosclerotic stapes ankylosis and malleus ankylosis was made peroperatively. Epitympanic malleus ankylosis is in the large majority of case a congénital malformation and is due to a abnormally small epitympanic space. I never found any malleus ankylosis due to the anterior tympanomalleal ligament. As can be seen in this case, malleus relation was perfore without any particular difficulties.
