The skin cancer has been removed by a specialized dermatologist called a moh's surgeon. Once finished with the moh's portion of the procedure the patient is then placed under anesthesia for the eyelid reconstruction. The eyelid has multiple layers which need to be repaired in an ordered fashion. In addition there are post operative scar forces which must be considered before and during the surgery. The periosteal bone flap as described here was designed and reported by Dr. McClellan at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons meeting in 2010 in Toronto. This is now a workhorse for lateral eyelid posterior lamella reconstruction. If you are having eyelid reconstruction please seek out a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon for repair.
