| Video Discription | The goal of the minimally invasive surgery service of the Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Center is to provide the highest level of care in conjunction with consistent and effective communication with the client and referring veterinarian. VSEC's minimally invasive service is available at our Levittown location with Drs. Jennifer MacLeod and Peter Chapman. Minimally invasive surgery, or Laparoscopy and thoracoscopy, is the use of special instruments and cameras introduced through small incisions to visualize within body cavities for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes. Laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgeries can offer the benefit of smaller surgical incisions, better visualization of lesions, shorter surgery times, and shorter hospital stays. VSEC is also offering stenting procedures for dogs with tracheal collapse refractory to medical management and dogs with urethral and colonic strictures! Samples of procedures offered: Liver biopsy Ovariectomy and ovariohysterectomy Cryptorchid castration Prophylactic gastropexy Lymph node biopsy Renal biopsy Cholecystectomy Pericardectomy Thoracic cavity exploration/lung biopsy During your initial appointment, you will be greeted by one of our experienced veterinary nurses who will weigh your pet, assess vital signs and obtain a brief patient history from you. You will then meet one of our surgeons who will review your pet's problem and discuss treatment options and recommendations. Diagnostics such as blood work or radiographs may be performed. Surgery, if necessary, will be discussed and scheduled. On the day of your pet's surgical procedure, you will be contacted by the surgeon after surgery and updated periodically during your pets stay at VSEC. A discharge appointment will be set up and all details of your pet's post-operative care and medications will be provided in a report and discussed with you. Your referring veterinarian will be updated on your pet's progress and all records will be faxed to them immediately. Our staff is always available by phone to answer any questions you may have during and after your pet's stay at VSEC. |
