| Video Discription | The lumbar spinal stenosis involves the reduction of the natural space through which the spinal cord and radicular nerves pass. This condition can be associated with severe pain radiating from the lumbar spine to the lower extremities and can significantly limit the walking capability of the patients suffering it. Minimally invasive (or minimally necessary) surgical techniques have become the standard of care in most current spinal surgeries. When direct decompression for a lumbar spinal stenosis is considered, the combination of tubular transmuscular approaches (METRx by Medtronic, in this case) with the ORBEYE (Olympus) 4K 3D exoscopic system (with it’s more ergonomic heads-up posture, hyperrealistic visualization and immersive surgical experience) increases the accuracy of the procedure by limiting it to the compromised area of the spinal canal, even when performing a bilateral decompression. This allows us to preserve important structures that provide stability to the spine, such as the muscle fibers, the spinous processes, the ligaments and the intervertebral joints.
