| Video Discription | Parastomal hernias, i.e. the hernias that appear in correspondence of artificial orifices in the abdominal wall, surgically created for realizing an ostomy *, are extremely frequent and very disabling for patients. They are of difficult surgical resolution and often recur, so much so that there are few surgeons who take charge of their repair: not infrequently patients feel abandoned to themselves and burdened with a further, disabling condition, which complicates the one that led to the realization of the stoma. The IVO (Instituto Valenciano de Oncología) technique is an innovative and extremely effective technique, developed by a Spanish surgeon, Prof. Fernando Carbonell Tatay of the University of Valencia. It involves the treatment of the hernia with a "chimney" prosthesis that completely envelops the ostomy loop, making it almost impossible for the hernia to recur. We present the first case done in Italy of laparoscopic repair of a recurrent parastomal hernia by IVO Technique. * Ostomies are externalizations of segments of the small or large intestine in order to ensure defecation when it, for pathological reasons, can no longer occur naturally. They are divided into temporary, i.e. intended to be eliminated following a surgical reconstruction of the intestinal transit, or definitive, when the intestinal transit can no longer be reconstructed.
