It's the most common type of astrocytoma in the cerebellum, which controls balance and movement. Symptoms Headaches Nausea and vomiting Dizziness Balance problems Eye problems, like double vision Behavior or personality changes Delays in development Feeling tired and weak Treatment Surgical resection is the main treatment, and is often curative Additional therapies may be used depending on the tumor's location and extent Prognosis Children have an excellent prognosis Adults have a poorer prognosis Cystic tumors have an even better prognosis than fibrillary variants Risk factors Genetic changes (BRAF gene) Exposure to ionizing radiation during treatment for other cancers like leukemia or lymphoma Other considerations Life-threatening presentations such as brainstem compression and hydrocephalus can occur The preferred diagnostic tool is brain magnetic resonance imaging Regards Dr. Md.
