| Video Discription | . There are many different techniques one can use to repair a ventral hernia. I prefer an open approach with the mesh in the pre-peritoneal space (under the abdominal wall but above the peritoneum). This allows to me to completely dissect out the hernia sac, and create large areas of fascia to suture the mesh into place. As you can imagine, this is extremely secure. . This video starts after I have done all the steps I mentioned above. Once my sutures are in place, I “parachute” the mesh into the pre-peritoneal space. I make sure the mesh is unfolded and hasn’t bunched up. I do this by lifting the edges of the fascia to release any tethering that might have occurred as the mesh drags long the tissues.
