| Video Discription | Portal Hypertension can lead to development of Oesophageal Varices. The Varices can be due to Liver Cirrhosis or Extra Hepatic Portal Vein Obstruction. Oesophageal Varices Can rupture any time to cause Bloody Vomiting and Drop in Haemoglobin. Sometimes this Bleeding from the large Varices can be life threatening. Upper GI Endoscopy is very important in controlling Bleeding from the Oesophageal Varices. The Bleeding is controlled / prevented by eradication / obliteration of Oesophageal Varices by Banding. With the help of Endoscopy, Oesophageal Varices are ligated by Rubber Bands. These bands obliterate the Varices. One or more sessions of Oesophageal Variceal Banding can be required depending on the size and number of the Varices. |
