Pubertal gynecomastia (gyno developed during puberty) is the most common cause of gynecomastia in men and our patient today is certainly no exception. Throw in some prohormone use that made his gynecomastia worse when he was 18, and at age 34, he is a man who desperately needs to be free of the burden of gyno. Wanting to be able to not miss out on events in his children’s lives, such as pool parties, due to feeling ashamed, our patient visits renowned gynecomastia expert surgeon Dr. Robert Caridi of Austin Gynecomastia Center for his 100% gland tissue gynecomastia removal surgery.
Originally getting familiar with Dr. Robert Caridi through his YouTube videos in 2017, the patient is finally able to have his gynecomastia removal surgery despite being ready, mentally, for it since as long as he can remember. In addition to having two children and having to wait until they were old enough, our patient had to wait until he was financially ready for gyno surgery. While insurance almost never covers gynecomastia surgery and the cost of surgery may seem staggering, an easier way to afford this life-changing procedure is through medical financing providers. Medical finance companies, such as CareCredit and MedLoan Finance, provide loans for medical procedures, including cosmetic surgery such as gynecomastia surgery. So, rather than paying for the procedure in one payment, the procedure can be paid for monthly, over-time.

The proper treatment of gynecomastia involves some form of liposuction and surgical tissue removal, or surgical tissue excision. Liposuction is used through out the procedure to contour fatty tissue while tissue removal is needed to remove the denser tissue, commonly known as “gland” or “glandular tissue”, that can’t be removed by liposuction alone. This gynecomastia tissue is always present under the areolas, if not also in other areas of the chest, and if any is not removed, it can result in the gyno symptoms persisting after surgery, also known as recurrence. Receiving improper treatment for their gynecomastia is the reason many of the patients at the Austin Gynecomastia Center come for a secondary gynecomastia procedure, which is the second or more time they’ve had gyno surgery performed. If that sounds awful, be sure to follow Dr. C’s advice and make sure to research surgeons before picking one to perform your procedure.
An extremely misleading theory among most, including cosmetic surgeons who perform gynecomastia surgery, is that some degree of glandular gyno tissue must be left in so that there is not a depression (divot) that forms under the nipple-areola complex from the tissue that was removed. This is simply not true and the only form of treatment for gynecomastia must include 100% gland removal, as proven by Dr. C, who has performed countless procedures this way without leaving his patients with misshapen chests. Leaving glandular tissue can result in recurrence that will have to be treated with additional surgery and thousands of dollars that did not need to be spent. Using surgical techniques such as internal flaps, quilting sutures, pleating sutures, or others, Dr. C is able to fill the empty space left by the removed tissue and the patient is left with an even, divot-less, masculine-looking chest.

After the successful 100% glandular tissue gyno removal surgery, our patient meets with his nurses to go over recovery procedures and care, as well as examine his chest and removed glandular tissue. To say the least, the patient is more than ecstatic at his depression-less results and is surprised at just how massive his removed glandular tissue is. This gland from his chest on the left-side was 102 grams and the right-side was 78 grams – that’s a LOT!
