| Video Discription | Current advances in robotic technology have allowed for minimally invasive surgical procedures to be completed through an incision size of 12 mm ( size of a penny ). Improvements in High Definition (HD) Digital Video now allow a reduction in incision size to 8 mm ( size of a dime ), usually through the belly button. Ongoing revisions will allow for instrument size to be reduced to 5 mm ( size of a straw ). These latter improvements have paved the way for single incision laparoscopy ( SILS ) wherein all instruments are passed through a single port site. Demonstrated here are current Da Vinci S instruments including the 12 mm camera introduction via the 12 mm umbilical port. Additional footage follows including future robotic instruments in development for single incision laparoscopy. Removal of small bowel tumors can now be completed with minimally invasive robotic surgery, followed by reconnection of the small bowel loops using robotic sewn anastomosis shown here. |
