Components of the intraluminal stapler are reviewed. Lesions of endometriosis in the sigmoid and anterior rectum pose unique management and operative challenges. Advantages include a minimally invasive technique, comparable functional outcomes and recurrence rates to other forms of bowel endometriosis surgery, and lower rates of immediate complications. Patient selection criteria include lesion characteristics, size, and location. Procedure steps include isolation of the rectal endometriotic lesion, placement of stay sutures, and activation of the intraluminal stapler to excise the lesion and staple the anastomosis. |
