| Video Discription | Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy done in a case of fibroids and endometriosis. Fibroids increase the size of the uterus and endometriosis makes the surgery difficult due to adhesions. The combination of these diseases is very common in gynecologic practice and it makes the uterus removal surgery challenging. The above surgery is performed by Dr Mayur Pai who is gene laparoscopic surgeon practicing in Goa India. Laparoscopic surgeries give a better cometic outcome with minimal pain, shorter hospital stay and rapid recovery. How to prepare for laparoscopic hysterectomy? We prefer that the patient is on liquid diet the day before the surgery. This prevents any chances of constipation and in our experience, helps the patient recover faster. The lady is hospitalized the night prior to surgery. No the day of the surgery, the patient is nil by mouth and may receive mild sedatives to help her be comfortable. Anaesthesia for laparoscopic hysterectomy: General anaesthesia offers the patient full body anaesthesia. The patient is put to sleep with a drug and she will stay asleep and unaware throughout the procedure. The patient is fully conscious within minutes of the surgery and is able to walk on the same day. Exercise after hysterectomy: The patient does not have any abdominal scar and can resume her routine walks after 6 weeks of surgery. She need not take bed rest all the time and can resume her daily routine at home immediately after discharge from the hospital. Most ladies can drive a car and go to desk work after 7 to 10 days of surgery. Sex after hysterectomy: Ladies are fit to have sexual activity within 2 to 3 months of surgery. These modern surgeries aim at preserving the maximum length of the vagina and this helps in a normal sexual life even after hysterectomy.
