The insertion shares many of the familiar steps of trabeculectomy, however no scleral flap, pre-placed sutures, sclerostomy or peripheral iridectomy need to be performed. The dose of the Mitomycin-C is critical for the success of the shunt. Higher doses reduce scarring, however risk avascularity and cystic changes to the bleb. Lower doses are safer, but may not effectively control the fibrosis. The prressures can be low post-operatively, but rarely need surgical intervention. |
